Question No. 1: What types of retainers are available?
Answer: There are many different types of retainers available, but the most commonly used retainer is the Hawley retainer. This retainer has an acrylic base (which is typically custom made to your liking) and a metal wire. The base sits on the palate while the wire hugs the teeth tightly.
Question No. 2: What does my retainer do for me?
Answer: Your retainer helps you maintain your dream smile. Because your teeth are used to shifting, they need something to keep them in place after treatment. Your retainer will do that for you.
Question No. 3: How can I keep my retainer in tip-top shape?
Answer: It’s best to clean your retainer regularly. You should do so by rinsing it with water each time you remove it and brushing it with a soft-bristled toothbrush and toothpaste. You can also use denture cleaning solution to clean it. You should also keep your appliance in a safe, room-temperature place.
